Accordion cowl

Ze is zo groot geworden!
Tijd om haar kast op te ruimen, spullen weg te doen of beter nog: opnieuw te gebruiken.

Dus werd het vest een col.
Voor mijn grote kleuter die alles zelf wil doen, maar nog niet zo goed knopen in haar sjaal legt (wat naast vieze natte sjaals, ook veel enge momenten oplevert bij het fietsen / schaatsen / skiën). Ik ben blij dat ik de wol nog een keer kon gebruiken. Het breit super en de kleur is zo mooi fel. Het is dezelfde wol die ik gebruikte voor haar Zsa Mask. Beetje jammer alleen dat ze die deze week kwijt raakte...

Ik heb dit patroon van Cornflower Blue Studio gebruikt en zette 85 steken (i.p.v. 120) op (op naald 5) voor een kindermaatje. Het is een mooi patroon om te oefenen met (rond)breien. Je breit simpelweg 5 rijen recht, 5 rijen averecht.

Time to clean her closets, put away some clothes or better: recycle them.

So her shrug became a cowl.
I chose this model because she is at an age that she wants to do everything herself. But tying a scarf is not always a priority for her and that causes dangerous situations when cycling / skiing / skating.

I'm happy that I could use this wool again. It is wonderful to work with and the colour is very bright. For her Zsa Mask I used the same wool. It would be a great set, but Isis lost the Zsa Mask last week...

The pattern I used is made by Cornflower Blue Studio.
To make it a child size cowl I casted on 85 stitches on a European nummer 5 needle. It is a perfect and easy pattern to practice knitting (in the round). You just purl 5 rounds, then knit 5.

Natuurlijk badeendje / Natural rubber bath duckling

Een fanatieke poetsvrouw zal ik nooit worden. Ik erger me niet snel aan een beetje rommel. En een vieze afwas kan ik ook best lang tolereren. Maar er zijn van die ieniemienie kleine dingen die me helemaal gek kunnen maken.

Oud, vies, stilstaand water in badspeelgoed bijvoorbeeld.

Isis heeft nog een trauma van de eendjes die ik na een paar badsessies de prullenbak in kieperde. Maar echt: dat laatste beetje vieze water -gemengd met badolie- kreeg ik er met geen mogelijkheid meer uit...

Ze is er nu te oud voor, maar deze badspeeltjes van Hevea zouden ideaal zijn geweest. Ze hebben namelijk geen gaatje! :-) Nog meer pluspunten (om de hoge prijs een beetje te verantwoorden): ze zijn niet gemaakt in China, ze zijn gemaakt van 100% natuurlijke rubber en zijn BPA, phthalates en PVC vrij.

En Isis? Dat trauma raakt langzamerhand iets op de achtergrond nu we het knetterbadzout en de glitterbadbruisballen hebben ontdekt ;-)

I'll never become a really good and dedicated housewife. I don't mind a little mess and I'll tolerate the dirty dishes for quit a long time before they will upset me. But some tiny little things can totaly annoy me.

Mouldy old bath water in bath toys, for example.

Isis still has a trauma of the bath ducklings I threw away. But there was no way I could get that last bit of dirty bath water out of those toys...

It's too late for Isis, but this Hevea bath toys set is ideal. They are a one piece design, so they don't have holes for water to get in! :-) They are not the cheapest bath toys but they are not just any bath toy: they are not made in China, they are made of 100% natural rubber latex and contain no PVC, no BPA, no phthalates and no artificial colors.

And poor Isis? She is slowly getting over her early childhood trauma now that we discovered the joy of crackle path pops and glitter fizz bath balls ;-)

Toen ik aan Isis haar juf vroeg of er in de klas verboden of allergieën waren waar ik rekening mee moest houden, keek ze me glazig aan. Nee. Niks!

Dus na de met honing gezoete popcorn, peer-spelt muffins en de onvermijdelijke doosjes rozijnen van de afgelopen jaren ben ik nu losgegaan met kleurstoffen, discodip en veel suiker :-) 

Inspiratie genoeg op internet en daarbuiten. Hier bijvoorbeeld een Nederlands recept en de Koningin van de cakepops heeft ook een Nederlandse vertaling van haar boek uitgegeven. 

Een variant die ik je niet wilde onthouden is deze zonder suiker van Green Kitchen Stories: Frozen chocolate-lemon-strawberry-pops. Dat Isis ze lekker vindt is zeker, want ze zijn gemaakt van fruit, noten en chocolade: na kleurstoffen, discodip en suiker haar een-na-favoriete combinatie ;-)

When I was preparing Isis her birthday treat, I asked Isis her teacher about allergies. She looked at me as if she didn't know what I was talking about... No allergies, no rules about sugar free!

So after making honey sweetened popcorn, pear-spelt muffins and giving little boxes of raisins I took my chance :-) I made cakepops full of sugar, colour additives and sprinkles.

On the internet and in regular stores there is loads of information on how to make them. I found the site of the Queen of cakepops to be very useful. She also made a cooking book with a lot of information and inspiring photos.

Searching for a recipe I also found this sugar free variant made by Green Kitchen Stories:  Frozen chocolate-lemon-strawberry-pops. I'm sure Isis would love this as the recipe contains nuts, fruit & chocolate: after sugar, colour additives and sprinkles another golden trio ;-)

Een tijdje terug kreeg ik van Barbara de Ru deze armbandjes. Gewonnen via haar Facebook-pagina. Roots & Wings staat erop. De naam van haar nieuwste (yoga-)collectie: “In je leven heb je wortels en vleugels nodig, als je ze allebei hebt dan zit je goed".

Ik hoop dat ik het Isis ook kan geven.
