1 april / April Fool's Day

Vanmiddag zat er zomaar een vis op mijn rug geplakt... (Poisson d’Avril) en die arme hond kreeg er een op zijn hoofd :-D En op internet kwam ik het filmpje hieronder tegen. Het is in april 1957 uitgezonden op de BBC, ik vind het een geweldige grap!

Linzen-kokossoep / Lentil-coconut soup

Het is weer zo'n dag: ik mag koken...
Ik dacht aan diepvriespizza :-)

Maar hoera voor sociale media.
Zij gooide haar dagmenu in een tweet: linzensoep!
Lekker, warm, voedzaam en in mijn geval ook makkelijk... want ik gebruikte dit recept uit de Allerhande. Alles past in 1 pan, de meeste ingrediënten staan al in de (koel-)kast en de smaak is zacht en een beetje zoetig: ideaal voor kinderen.

I was thinking: frozen pizza :-)

But then I read her tweet, she was making lentil soup!
I love lentil soup. It's warm, nutricious and the recipe I used is easy too. You'll only need one pot and the most ingredients are basics so you'll allready have them at home. The soup tastes soft and a little sweet: perfect for children!

Vakantie / Holiday

      

 

De vakantie was heerlijk:

Onze Nederlandse vrienden weer zien;

Zwemlessen voor haar C;

Pannenkoeken en zweven op de Parade;

En opa's persoonlijke oogst!

Nu weer proberen om elke ochtend vroeg op te staan en te wennen... aan de nieuwe school, de nieuwe klas en het nieuwe huis!

We loved our holiday in the Netherlands:

We saw our Dutch friends;

Isis had swimminglessons (never found a swimmingschool like this in Switzerland!)

Ate pancakes and enjoyed the carousel at the Parade;

Checked out her granddad's very personal harvest!

And now: we try to adjust to the new -'normal'- schedule... the new school, her new class and our new house!

Atlas / Maps

Op de blog van Miss Milupka zag ik een prachtige kinderatlas. In het Pools... dat was een beetje jammer, maar zo mooi geïllustreerd dat het feit dat ik geen Pools ken maar een klein detail leek.

En toen zag ik het boek afgelopen week in een Utrechtse etalage ! In het Nederlands !!
Naast de fantastische illustraties kunnen we ons nu dus ook vergapen aan de moderne weetjes over de cultuur, natuur en gebruiken in het betreffende land. (Atlas -Een fantastische ontdekkingsreis lans de schatten van de wereld- van Aleksandra Mizielinska en Daniel Mizielinski uitgeverij Lannoo)

I stumbled upon a wonderful children's atlas at Miss Milupka's blog. Small detail...it was written in Polish... But still : it was on my wish list because of the beautiful illustrations.

But then -last week- I spotted the book cover in a shopwindow in Utrecht ! Translated in Dutch !! So now we don't only dream away with those illustrations, but also with all the up-to-date facts about the local culture, nature and habits. Also in English: Maps, by Aleksandra Mizielinska & Daniel Mizielinski.

UV Zwemkleding / UV protective swimwear

Waaaaat!
Dit las ik vorige week:

‘Helft zonneproducten voor kinderen niet te vertrouwen’

We blijven stug smeren, maar mijn beste troef in de zomer is UV kleding!

Ik heb zelfs voor mijzelf ook een rash shirt gekocht. En ondanks dat het een paar vreemde blikken oplevert bij het zwembad is het ideaal. Niks geen geplak, gesmeer, witte strepen (en irritanter nog: gele strepen in je witte kleren...)  en na het afdrogen weer opnieuw beginnen. Shirt aan, pet op & gaan! En ondertussen waan ik me gewoon in Miami op mijn paddle board ;-)

De UV-zwemshirtjes van Ducksday vind ik erg gaaf: mooie prints (ook stoere voor jongens!). Je kunt ze o.a. vinden bij uv-zwemkleding.nl

Vergeet ondertussen niet mee te doen met de give-away van Terry Rich!

Oh my!
I read on the website of a Belgium newspaper that tests showed that half of the sunscreen products for kids don't work like they should...! Some even covered up the symptoms of sunburn without protecting properly!

We will still use sunscreen of course, but my biggest favorite in summer is rash guards!

I even bought one for myself. And yes: people at the swimming pool give me strange looks, but I just feel like some celeb going for a padlle ;-) No more white stripes, sticky cream and even worse: yellow stains in my white clothes. I just put on my shirt & cap and I'm ready to go!

Wat een geweldig leuk initiatief!

Op Plekcheck.nl kun je een speelplek in de buurt zoeken. En toevoegen. Dat hoeven niet perse speeltuinen te zijn, maar elke plek waar goed gespeeld kan worden. Kom maar op met die geheime parken en bossen, naar buiten allemaal!! :-)

Plekcheck.nl  is a Dutch initiative where playground, playparks, woods and other great spots for children to play outside are organized online. You can add a play area or search for one in your neightbourhood. Briljant, let's go outside!! :-)

Kiss (& sleep :-)) Naturals

Van een vriendin kreeg Isis bijenwas om haar eigen crème te maken. We gebruikten dit recept, maar in plaats van de goudsbloemen gebruikten we wat lavendelolie. En in plaats van een pannetje gebruikten we de magnetron. Hierdoor werd het een projectje van 10 minuten, de ideale tijd voor zoiets.

De gesmolten was, amandelolie en lavendelolie hebben we laten stollen in het lege blikje van haar favoriete slaapcrème. Hij werkt als een trein ;-)

Omdat we toch zo lekker bezig waren met dingen smelten & mengen, hebben we ook zeepjes gemaakt met het zeep-maak-pakket van Kiss Naturals.

A friend gave Isis some beeswax to make her own balm. We mixed it with almond oil and melted this in the microwave. After stirring we mixed in a little lavender oil and poured it in an empty Badger tin (you can test the thickness of your mixture just by dripping a small drop on a surface and see how it sets). Now she made her own -new & favorite- sleeping balm!

Because we were in the mood, we also made little soaps using the soap making kit from Kiss Naturals.

It's a clock

Elk voordeel heeft zijn nadeel...
Zo ook de alles verduisterende luiken in ons huis hier in Zwitserland.

Want of Isis nu midden in de nacht wakker wordt, of 's ochtends vroeg: het is altijd aardedonker. Maar ze kan nog geen klokkijken, dus roept ze ons midden in de nacht een paar keer wakker om te checken hoe laat het is. Niet fijn!

Er zijn veel oplossingen te koop met lampjes en bewegende figuurtjes, maar ik wilde graag dat ze tegelijkertijd ook echt zelf wat meer grip zou krijgen op het verloop van de dag. Dus kwam ik uit bij It's a Clock. Een 'echte' klok aangevuld met symbolen. Ze moet dus echt zelf kijken of het al tijd is om op te staan en op de klok is ook ruimte voor de andere activiteiten van een dag.

Geweldige klok met 2 nadelen:
hij maakt veel -echt irritant veel- geluid bij het tikken en hij was redelijk duur (bij Bol.com en de Bijenkorf vond ik de goedkoopste).

Toen zag ik dit idee bij Veetje: simpel, goedkoop en met ruimte in de uitvoering voor je eigen symbolen bij de uren!

Isis can't tell if it is time to wake up because even in the morning her room is completely dark. And she didn't yet learned to tell the time, so she wakes us up in the middle of the night to ask if she may wake up :-(

I saw some solutions that tell children to wake up by showing them a light or a moving figure. But I really wanted her to 'watch' a clock herself and also understand more the concept of time. It's a Clock
is a real clock made fun and more understandeble because of the symbols you can add to it. 

Her new It's a Clock works: I get to sleep through the night. But it is not perfect:
the clock ticks loud -very loud- and I think it was an expensive solution (Bol.com and de Bijenkorf sell one for € 19,99, but the 'normal' price is € 35,-).

Later, I saw this idea at Veetje's and I think it is briljant: simple, cheap and with room for personalization -make your own symbols and paste them at the hours where they belong-.

Alles wordt door haar 'gespeld' en fonetisch geschreven.
Het wordt tijd dat ik deze weer eens actueel maak.

She tries to 'spell' everything and writes us fonetic notes.

Bandana cowl

Heel eerlijk gezegd snap ik niet dat er nog kinderen rondlopen met een sjaal!

Vorig jaar breide ik voor Isis een col omdat ze graag alles zelf wilde doen en sindsdien zijn we om: geen gehannes met een sjaal die niet goed om geknoopt is en waarvan de uiteinden op de vieze -natte- straat bengelen. Toevallig las ik vandaag op Babyccinokids dat er op de Franse school van Emilie serieus een sjalen-verbod geldt. Gaat misschien een beetje ver, maar echt: een col is zo veel praktischer!

Dit weekend breide ik een nieuwe col voor Isis haar collectie. Een bandana cowl naar het patroon van Purlbee. Ik heb naald 5 gebruikt en verder gewoon het patroon gevolgd, wat resulteerde in een kindermaat.

I realy don't get it why there are still children wearing scarves!

Last year I knitted a cowl for Isis as she wanted to be able to do everything by herself. And since then we are convinced: no more loose and badly tied scarves -hanging on the wet & dirty streets- for us. Funny enough, today I read on Babyccinokids that the French school that Emilie her children attend, has banned scarves. I'm not a big fan of rules about clothing, but I have to agree that a cowl is mutch more practical to use. Especially for a child.

Last weekend I knitted a new cowl for Isis her collection. A bandana cowl using the pattern by Purlbee. I used needle size 5mm and just followed the pattern. The small needle adjustment resulted in a child size.

Chili sin carne

Ze wil een flexitarier zijn :-D
Dus ik maakte chili sin carne en kreeg zowaar een 10!
Ik heb zijn en haar recept gecombineerd. En die combinatie houden we erin :-)

She wants to be a flexitarier :-D
So I made chili sin carne and Isis gave me an 'A'!
I combined his en her recipe and think it is an golden combination :-)

Sneeuw! / Snow!

Ondertussen is de deur van haar bouwwerk door de zon aan het inzakken, maar de eerste iglo dit seizoen is een feit! (en de eerste keer sleeën ook :-))

Today was warmer, so the door has melted down... but yesterday we made our first iglo! (and had fun riding the sled on the same day :-))

Noord Cyprus / North Cyprus

Wilde ezeltjes gezien, veel gezwommen, de Lala Mustafa Pasha moskee bezocht, links gereden, het kasteel van Sneeuwwitje beklommen, de grens over gestoken...

Moe, maar voldaan terug gekomen van vakantie.
Uitrusten doen we wel een andere keer ;-)

We saw wild monkeys, we swam in the pool and the sea, we visited the Lala Mustafa Pasha mosque, drove the car on the left side of the road, climbed Snowwhite's castle and crossed the border...

We came home tired but 100% satisfied.
I'm sure we'll catch up some sleep later ;-)
